How To Properly Wear A Hijaab

The Hijaab is a beautiful and necessary asset to children, as they make their way through school life, allowing them to preserve their modesty in the classroom and playground. Learning how to wear a Hijaab properly is equally important. We started Get Head Smart in 2004 with a simple Hijaab for schools because we couldn’t, for the life of us, find a company that was producing any that were suitable. We have grown from those humble beginnings and are now expanding our range of customised Hijaabs for schools up and down the country.

About The Hijaab

The word "Hijaab" comes from the Arabic word "Hajaba" meaning “to hide from view or conceal.” A Hijaab is a head scarf worn by a Muslim woman. It should be worn to cover the entire head, shoulders and chest.

Why Wear The Hijaab?

Muslim women learn how to wear a Hijaab because Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta’ala (SWT) in the Holy Qur'an commands them to do so.

"Say to the believing man that they should lower their gaze and guard their modesty; that will make for greater purity for them; and Allah is well acquainted with all that they do. And say to the believing women that they should lower their gaze and guard their modesty; and that they should not display their beauty and ornaments except what must ordinarily appear thereof; that they should draw their veils over their bosoms and not display their beauty except to their husbands..."

(Qur'an 24:30-31)

 Misconceptions About The Hijaab

In today's society there are lots of misconceptions about a Muslim woman and girls wearing the Hijaab. Many people think that women wearing the Hijaab must be forced to wear it. However, in Islam there is no compulsion to do anything. It is up to the believing person to obey or disobey the commandment of Allah (SWT) and both men and women are equal as far as their relationship to Allah (SWT) is concerned. One reason for the increasing number of women learning how to wear a Hijaab may be that they are discovering that Allah (SWT) has prescribed the Hijaab, (see passage above). Therefore, they are merely complying with a divine command, which is very rewarding. The Hijaab gives the intelligent woman confidence and a feeling of security. Learning how to wear a Hijaab makes a statement about a person and, at the same time, protects an individual from preying eyes. It is not only an enhancement to the uniform or dress but it also provides a sense of belonging and identity, which is very important.
